Course Overview

Our UK Legal Work Experience course is a residential week-long curriculum designed to give students the best possible insight into working life as a Lawyer in the UK legal system. Featuring teaching from qualified legal professionals this course allows students to take the role of both a solicitor and barrister through the week.

Combined with expert university application and careers advice, this course will leave students ready to begin their career in the legal profession! Based in the vibrant capital city of London, home to the highest law courts in the UK,  the course also affords students the chance to immerse themselves in British culture.

This Course is Suitable For:

Students aged 16 or over who are either set on becoming a lawyer or would simply like to learn more about day to day life working in the legal profession. We accept students of any nationality on this course.

Course Timetable

Sunday Afternoon

Students arrive into London Heathrow airport or London Kings Cross Station and are met by waiting members of Law Projects staff. They then travel to our accommodation in central London to meet the rest of the group and settle into their roo for anms.

Sunday Evening

All students attend a welcome briefing to talk through the plan for the week and some safety tips. Then it is time for a group welcome dinner and some ice-breakers before getting an early night ready for the week ahead!

Monday Morning

After breakfast we start learning about working life as a solicitor. The day begins with introductions to our professional solicitors who teach our students the basic legal skills required to become a solicitor including how to conduct legal interviews. Students then spend the day solving some common legal problems guided by our solicitors.

Monday Afternoon

After lunch it is time for a basic introduction to the Bar! Our qualified lawyers lead workshop sessions on cross examination, public speaking, and bust common legal myths! Students will be using these skills through the week, so today is key to making the most of their experience! After finishing teaching it is time to take part in our Law Projects Quiz, with some special London themed prizes up for grabs!

Tuesday Morning

Today we are learning about the different areas of law available to practising solicitors. This includes workshops on criminal law, corporate law, human rights law and tort. The workshop will help students to narrow down areas of interest for their future careers!

Tuesday Afternoon

After finishing placement the group heads to Trafalgar Square to take in one of the city’s most famous sites. After spending some time there exploring it is time to head home for dinner and free time before bed.

Wednesday Morning

This morning is dedicated to university preparation, with sessions led by qualified lawyers and current law students. Students will take part in workshops teaching them about the university entrance exams, different paths through university to working as a lawyer, qualification exams, and choosing the right university pathway for them.

Wednesday Afternoon

Students are assigned their roles in the mock trial which takes place at the end of the week. Students attend a teaching session on legal research and structuring a legal argument, and then have until Friday to work as a team to put together their case. Our group head to the world-famous Covent Garden market this evening to explore the shops and cafes in the area for a couple of hours, before heading back to our accommodation for dinner.

Thursday Morning

Today is dedication to watching qualified barristers in action. We start with a tour of the Royal Courts of Justice, home to the High Court and Court of Appeals for England and Wales. Here we will learn about the roles of the different courts in the UK legal system and visit the Supreme Court, the highest court in the country!

Thursday Afternoon

The afternoon is spent at a London Criminal Court. Here students will join the public gallery and observe criminal court cases take place, making sure to take lots of notes for their own mock trial on Friday. We will then grab dinner in London before students have a free evening to relax at our accommodation and reflect on what they have learnt, ready for their mock trial!

Friday Morning

It is the day of our mock trial, where we start with opening statements before we spend the morning listening to the case of the prosecution. Our professional lawyers and law students will be on hand to help guide students, and to act as the judge!

Friday Afternoon

This afternoon it is time for the defence to put their case to the jury and try to get their client acquitted. We then hear closing statements before we break for jury deliberations! After a nail biting verdict we finish the week by watching a world famous West End show – Wicked! It’s a great way to round off the week!

Our accommodation is based in safe, quiet areas within easy reach of Central London.

Our students share single-gender dormitory style rooms, normally shared with up to 5-6 students.

We have 3-4 accommodation partners which we use depending on student numbers and project dates, so please get in touch with us for exact details of your accommodation. You can see some our accommodation partners in the gallery to give an idea of what students can expect from their time with Law Projects.


Students are required to meet us at pre-designated meeting points in London – either London Heathrow Airport or Kings Cross Train Station. Students will be required to purchase an Oyster travel card for all travel whilst with us which can be organised prior to travel or will be done with the team upon arrival.

Food & Drink

Students are provided a continental breakfast each morning before heading out for the day. Individual items vary depending on the accommodation but students can expect some of the following; toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, butter, jam and other spreads, juice, tea and coffee.

Dinner is included every night during students time with us. Where we eat will vary; sometimes we will eat out at a nearby restaurant, have food prepared at our accommodation, or you may be given a cash allowance and choose your own dinner with a group of fellow students. You will dine on a range of different cuisines, but regardless of where we go there will always be an option that fits students’ dietary requirements.

Whilst learning is our main focus, we also want to ensure students make the most of their time in London and leave with new friends from all over the world!

Our team arrange great social activities for some of the evenings the students are with us. Some of these take place in our accommodation to help break the ice at the beginning of the week, but we also organise some fantastic experiences around the city, which might include;

•  An evening at Covent Garden
•  A scavenger hunt experience
•  A Friday evening night out to a West End theatre show

    Pastoral Care

    Every Law Projects course is staffed by our own highly experienced staff. We are with the students and on-hand 24/7 to supervise and assist students. All of our staff undergo enhanced DBS checks before joining our courses and we always have at least one fully trained first aider with the group.

    Our staff also stay at the same accommodation and we always have a female member of staff on duty at night.

    Course Fees

    1 Week = £2150

    The course fee is paid in two instalments. A £300 deposit is taken to reserve your space and the remaining balance is not due until 90 days before your course start date.
